ACHIEVEMENTS (2008-09)

·       Ph.D. degree awarded: 01.

·       Dr. N. L. Heda has visited Super Photon ring of 8 GeV (SPring-8), Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute, Hyogo, Japan during Feb. 10-19, 2009 to perform "Indo-SPring-8" collaborative research experiment entitled "Origin of magnetism in multiferroic materials using magnetic Compton scattering". The whole financial expense of this visit by Dr. Heda was given by Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, New Delhi.

·       One M.Sc. (F) Physics (Energy Studies) student, Mr. Piyush Kumar Parashar, has participated and delivered a ORAL PRESENTATION in 53rd Department of Atomic Energy Solid State Physics Symposium during 16-20, 2008 at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai and has been awarded M.Sc. Project Award-2008. This Project work had been carried out at Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam as summer training.

·       Our two students of M.Sc. (P) Physics (Energy Studies) namely Ms. Meenakshi Bhatia and Ms. Rekha Panjawani have been selected for Summer Training in Physics-2009 at IGCAR, Kalpakkam for a period of 45 days. They will get a fellowship of Rs. 4,500/- for this training.

·       Our M.Sc. (F) students have been selected for their training at BARC, Mumbai, Institute for Plasma Physics, Gandhinagar, UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research, Indore, Rawatbhata Atomic Power Station, Rawatbhata, Dholpur Combined Cycle Power Project, Dholpur, etc.

 RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

The department is involved in:

  • Laser-plasma interaction, Plasma filled high power coherent radiation sources, Free electron laser (FEL), Parametric instabilities, dusty plasma.

  • Compton scattering measurements using gamma-rays and synchrotron radiations, ab-initio calculation using linear combination of atomic orbitals, full potential linearised augmented plane-wave and spin polarised relativistic Korringa-Khon-Rostoker (SPR-KKR) approaches.
